Mine Canary
September 26, 2006
In the olden days, miners who went deep into coal shafts used to carry a golden canary with them into the chambers below. The miners, usually people who had spent their entire lives in the depths of mining shafts, were unable to sense when toxic gasses were escaping from the walls. The rule was simple, if you looked over and saw that the canary was laying on its side with “Xs” for eyes, you knew it was time to run as fast as you could towards an elevator.
Be sure to keep an eye on the canary as you mine the alluvial mine. Make sure to listen to the voice of the canary – which is quite different to that of the inner critic.

Your technique is becoming so refined that I am beginning to glimpse subliminal images in the folds and shadows.
a canary chirp made real? oops – that is cryptic
anyway, thanks for picking up the canary theme
brilliant drawing, Heather
This guy looks like he knows his stuff.
He’s a bit of a hunk really. Well drawn Heather.
Brilliant drawing..I second that!! Ok the voice of the canary is different from the voice of the inner critic…(me thinking…)…mmmm, think I have it now!! So the canary ought not to be ignored, but the inner critic needs his/her voice assessed discerningly. I like this piece of creative philosophy!!
I like it too, Edith.
