PortalMuse

September 9, 2006

I have used the term in a number of writings and upon review find a commonality of perspective that is perhaps not common at all. To whit, a portal is not the same as a door through which one can step to reach a known place. Here, I readily step through a door into ‘the mysteries of Lemuria’ to seek adventure and companionship. But then I am asked to consider ‘the portal’ — and I must muse a bit; for it is cannot be a portal through which I stepped at all. I guess the difference is grounded in my understanding that one cannot “do” magick, but only increase the propensity of its occurance and your own awareness. Simply put, if something is repeatable or doable by many it cannot be magick — it is now science, often because of alchemy of some sort. So, I will reflect on exactly what a portal is for me, and post a few things along the way to confuddle your dimmus, or such.

example 1:

PORTAL

There are always two truths or more
to the twining of divine embrace
and fumblings of human imagination.

One reality is that a stone
scoured from a heap of discarded hopes
was found by chance to nestle fit a withered branch,
and nothing but whimsy and fun
lent a hand to scrape and hone and craft
a portal to future memories and such.

Another view is as fact profound.
That a rare dragon tear fell to earth
and was claimed by the root of the Evertree,
and that a knight of age and wit
sliced it in twain to sever a dream,
and save a maid from a witch’s clutching fist.

It is not now for me to say,
but for thee to gaze into the stone
and feel the pulse of Song and Light and Joy;
for ‘bove all this is a child’s toy
bound of simple love and innocence
of earth and clay and kiss of our creation.

  1. So do we only see that which we are already inclined to see, or are we somehow prepared for certain visions and understandings so that there are times when we are best able to hear the Message?? Or is it all just emptiness and Nothing? I hope to God that it is not the last of these.

  2. Nay, everything can be a portal to understanding, and thereby our ability to perceive awe and wonder. Change “somehow prepared” to “daily acts of preparation” for hearing the ‘Meassage’. You and I are the Messsage, little one; but my reach is short and my vision dim — so I need thee.

However, ‘emptiness and Nothing’ are descriptors of our limited universe — not necessarily of totality. Consider, just where was God standing when heash said, “Let there be Light?”
